I recently learned of a website called Simply Utah. It is an online directory of creative businesses in Utah. Awesome, right? And on that site, I saw a link for Stitched Cards, which are so cute, but I realized I could totally do those myself! (Though after doing a couple, I thought I should totally make these and sell them on Etsy. I love doing embroidery but one can only have so much sitting around the house. So maybe...)
So here is the original Stitched Card, my inspiration:

I then went into Word, made some word art with a similar font I liked. I was not a fan of the Word heart, no any hearts I have in doodle fonts. So I decided to just cut out my own. First I cut to big, so I cut a smaller heart inside and realized the scrap was way cuter than a regular heart, so I started over to make it the right side. I printed my Word art in "draft" so I'd have a really light line, then I traced my heart lightly with pencil.
Then I took my needle and pre-poked my holes for stitching so I could make sure they were fairly uniform, and it would make the actual stitching go a lot quicker. I originally just did this hanging off the edge of my desk, but I had to be careful about messing up the cardstock. Then I tried it on top of a piece of cardboard, but that was to hard to press through. I finally ended up on top of one of my baby's blankets, and that was perfect for allowing the needle to go through.
You need to be really accurate with your poking otherwise your stitches will be wonky.
Then you just need to pick your embroidery thread color, and do a basic running stitch.
And finally the finished product
I was able to do this pretty quickly, even taking care of 2 little girls (I did most of the stitching standing, wearing my baby in my BabyHawk Mei Tai, while my older daughter "cooked" me some stir-fry on her play kitchen, watching Arthur.)
I will add more pictures as I get more done.
